Nokia N8 Sells Reach 4 Million Units

Nokia is been in the news for selling a lot of high-end smartphones since probably the N95. Now its the time for Nokia N8 which shows a remarkable boom in Mobile Market.
A Finland based research company Inderes Oy has stated that Nokia has sold between 3.5 million to 4 million handsets. It has also become one of the top selling handsets in Finland, India, Malaysia and UAE, countries where Nokia is known to be considered in high regard.

However, neither the research company nor the Nokia has revealed the exact figures. If the numbers are to be believed, the N8 seems to be doing pretty well, which is good because it is a very good phone as we found out in our review.

Nokia X5 Arrives in India; Priced at Rs. 10,499

After Five months its unveiling, the Nokia X5 is finally out now . The X5 slider phone looks like a cross between a Nokia E series smartphone and an XpressMusic handset. Nokia X5 is on sale for Rs. 10,499.

It supports a 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash, 2.36 inch QVGA display and a slide out QWERTY keypad. With an internal memory of 200 MB and bundled 2 GB microSD memory card.
The phone supports dedicated music keys, and comes with a year's worth of unlimited music from Ovi Music. Nokia X5 music oriented features include a built in 'Surprise me!' option that plays random tracks when the phone is spun around. 'Playlist DJ' feature allows playlist creation tools. When music is not playing, you can shake the phone to see the number of new SMSes in the Inbox.

It runs the same Symbian Series 60 OS found on the E-series smartphones, which gives access to slew of social networking services. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and USB 2.0. Nokia X5's battery is claimed to last 16-days on standby and gives 24 hours of music playback.

World Smallest Stop Motion Animation

I love this little (literally) stop-motion animation. Not only did “Dot” break the Guinness World Record for Smallest stop-motion animation character in a film, it was shot using life-saving technology.
First about the film, which you can watch below. It features Dot, a girl who just 9 millimeters tall. She wakes up in a world that seems to be unraveling. Fleeing an encroaching wave of loose threads, Dot runs across coins, pins, nuts and bolts and jumps on a bumblebee to fly away. Finally she saves herself by knitting the threads into a sleeping bag.
Now about the life-saving technology. The animation was filed using a Nokia N8 smart phone equipped with a CellScope, a diagnostic-quality microscope that was invented by Daniel Fletcher at the University of California, Berkeley. The CellScope allows a doctor working anywhere there is a phone service to capture and transmit images of blood samples anywhere in the world. The technology could help diagnose disease in developing countries where medical doctors and labs are few and far between.
Another bit of technology was used that, although not life-saving, is an interesting application. It’s 3-D printing. It was used to create various molds of Dot posed in different positions. Normally such an animation would rely on clay manipulated manually to adjust the character’s body positions. But Dot was too small for this and so her body positions were adjusted using molds of her in various positions.
