Flipkart, the Online Bookstore website is getting pre-order for HTC Desire Z handset. HTC Desire Z has a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen at a picture resolution of 480×800 pixels. It is powered by 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor and 512 MB RAM and runs on Android 2.2 Froyo OS.

This handset is designed for heavier textures and regular emailers and syncs with multiple email accounts including Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo as well asMicrosoft Exchange ActiveSync. HTC desire Z has other features likeAdobe Flash 10.1, 5 Megapixel camera with AF features, DLNA sharing support that lets you stream media file. It also support face recognisation feature, and is a capable of recording High Definition Video at 720p resolution.

Desire Z offers connectivity option like 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB and supports 14.4 Mbps of download speed with HSPA+ network. Desire Z also supports HTC sense User Interface layered that can be used with the HTC sense.com site.

Sony Ericsson to launch Its New Handsets in Feb 2011

Sony Ericsson seems to be working very hard to announce some new handsets in the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) that is going to be held in Barcelona in February 2011. As from the various online reports that have come into picture, we can expect that Sony Ericsson will be going to expand its Xperia handsets category by adding some new models to it.

The models, which are going to be expected to line-up Xperia handsets portfolio, are Xperia Arc, Xperia Duo, and Xperia Neo models. We also came to know that Sony Ericsson would be also going to launch Xperia X12 and PlayStation phone. Sony Ericsson Xperia 12 is a hybrid version of Xperia X10 handset,  X12 will be powered by 1 GHz of processor and will be running on Google’s newest Android Operating System, Gingerbread.

The device is also supposed to have 8.1 Megapixel of camera that is capable of recording HD videos at 720p resolution and it also going to support a HDMI port. The detail of Xperia Arc, Xperia Duo, and Xperia Neo models handsets has not yet been announced but it is going to be released very soon.

Sony Ericsson has already trademarked Xperia Arc, Xperia Duo, and Xperia Neo models and they might be going to announce in MWC event.

Apple iPad 2 Coming With WiFi, UMTS & CDMA

 According to industry sources at chip component makers, Apple is going to work on 3 versions of iPad 2 that will consist of Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA models as reported by Taiwanese news daily DigiTimes. The mass production of these iPads is expected to start in late January. Once again the "industry sources" offers some secretive update but there's no way to confirm them to be true.

Apple iPad truly has been the most discussed and searched gadget of this year. Despite of that, several short comings exist in the tablet that are anticipated to be covered up in the next-generation iPad 2. Apple follows an annual product cycle under which a new product with design and/or hardware refresh comes out every year mostly. The iPad's annual product cycle period is January and hence eyes are glued to Apple for announcing the new iPad 2 sometime at or after the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 in Las Vegas.

The industry sources placed at Taiwanese component makers pointed out that about 60 to 65 per cent of current iPad shipments consist of UMTS 3G model. Hence Apple is expected to work closely with telecom operators and roll out second-generation iPad in conjunction with different wireless majors. Apple plans to ship about 500,000-530,000 iPad units in January at a ratio of 3:4:3 for Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA models respectively. For these new iPad 2 models, Apple is also said to be working on better oleophobic coating and anti-reflective screen. 

These sources also stated that Apple will gradually cease the production of iPad after January and whatever iPad inventory is left would be used to suffice the demand of the same model through the year 2011. The sources estimate that the iPad 2 shipments in 2011 will reach 40 million units. Too many figures and too many "industry" sources have been cited so far. Android based HTC Thunderbolt 4G Due On Jan 6

Few days left when HTC will going to introduce its yet another 4G handset on January 6 at the Consumer Electronic Show 2011 in Las Vegas. After running an ad campaign, HTC has finally made live the sign-up page for the upcoming 4G smartphone live for the US audience. The page URL carries Thunderbolt 4G, which obviously might be the brand name of the phone destined to launch as pointed out by AndroidCentral. Thunderbolt 4G looks like EVO 4G successor but as of now it is unsure which US network is going to carry it exclusively.

The Thunderbolt 4G phone is said to have 4.3-inch touchscreen display as much as the EVO 4G. It will carry almost the same features as the EVO 4G, like the 8 megapixel camera and a front facing camera for video calls. Thunderbolt will run Android 2.2 Froyo with a new version of HTC Sense UI on it. 

Mobileburn blogger Michael Oryl noted about receiving a pack from HTC's PR Waggener Edstrom. The package contained an Android Collectible figurine, Compass keychain, four G letter buttons keychain, Froyo lover sticker, video chat screenshot showing Las Vegas and Foam TV Set. These hints add much sense to the anticipated Thunderbolt 4G. So now we can expect Video Chat, Froyo update, digital compass, and TV (V Cast Video) feature from the second 4G handset from HTC.

Thunderbolt 4G will still remains a mystery device till January 6 for we don't have more details about the processor, screen technology, resolution supported, and many other features. Also, we don't know if this phone would be limited just to the US or would be available worldwide.

Apple Gadgets Antennas to Hide Behind Logo

Antenna's technology was a big problem area when Apple introduced its iPhone for 6 months ago. Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple did clarify the issue pertaining to the new Antennae technology used in iPhone 4. We also got a glimpse of Apple's Antenna Design and Test Labs - Apple. At these Labs, Apple Engineers are now working on a new Antenna design to place it behind the Apple Logo of portable devices. Patently Apple spotted a patent that describes a filing about Logo Antennas in Apple's portable products.

The Apple iPad has its antenna just behind the logo, which clearly shows what Apple's hardware engineers have been aiming to do. Apple Hardware Engineers are now working to place the Antennas behind the Apple Logo to gain stronger signal without intervening metal or interference from other conductive housing walls. Antenna won't be limited just to Wi-Fi but would cover cellular telephone bands such as GSM 850/900/1800/1900/2100MHz data bands. Apart from the multi-band telecommunications, the antennas would also support Global Positioning System capabilities. 

Apple's Patent calls the new antenna technology as Logo Antenna and hardware engineers state that it's possible to cram behind the logos of mobile devices such as iPhone or iPod touch. Even laptops such as MacBooks can have this antenna behind the logo and hence might offer telephony option.  In addition to that, these antennas can be placed in desktop machines like iMacs and Mac Minis. 

Logo Antennas would be placed Apple products within housing machined from precision unibody aluminum block or other metals. The walls of housing might be used to hold conductive components such as displays. So the conductive antenna cavity might help isolating the Logo Antenna from other circuit inside the housing. 

Year after year Apple aims at offering slimmer products and thereby increasing the challenge for hardware engineers to place the antenna in the best location in the product. It would be interesting to see future Apple products carry the Logo Antenna technology.

HTC Mozart are now at HTC India Website

Availability of the first Windows Phone 7 device HTC HD7 in India. Now another Windows Phone 7 mobile OS running HTC Mozart handset has been listed at the HTC India website. One of the initially announced WP7 phones, even leaked couple of times, Mozart is the first HTC phone to get the Xenon flash for better imaging. There are no details on the price of this phone as yet. 

HTC Mozart has 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480x800 pixel resolution and the handset carries an attractive unibody aluminum design. The phone has 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8250 chipset, 512MB ROM and 576MB RAM. Sporting 8GB internal storage, Mozart has Gravity-Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Ambient light sensor, Digital Compass, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Wi-Fi, etc.

Mozart becomes the first HTC phone to get Xenon Flash for its 8 megapixel camera that is capable of shooting high resolution still photos and recording 720p HD video. HTC has also added Dolby Mobile and SRS Surround Sound for the high fidelity music experience on the move. 

HTC Mozart is available in the US in the price range of $600 to $740 and hence it's difficult to estimate the price of the phone here. However, considering the price of HD7, I believe Mozart might be priced somewhere around Rs. 30,000.

Acer Android 7-inch and 10.1-inch Tablets Preview Videos Spotted

Acer announced its new 7-inch and 10.1-inch Tablets in an New York based event last month on Nov 23. Out of both, videos of the 10.1-inch Acer Tablet running Android was spotted on YouTube. Two different videos showed preview of the same thing - usage of gyroscope to flip through pages of magazine or a book. The tablet seems to have Acer UI 4.5 layered over the Android interface and also showed some innovative zooming gestures.

At the Acer's Conference, the 10.1-inch Android running tablet was shown with aluminum casing and one of the slides mentioned that the tablet would house a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. The capacitive touchscreen supports 1280x800 pixel resolution display. In the videos, a female previews Acer's Android tablet running an eBook application that flips pages based on the gyroscope. Dell Streak 7 (Android) is Wi-Fi Certified

Google Android 2.1 running Streak tablet had been introdused by Dell in India for Rs. 34,990 two months ago. And now we hear ramblings about the Dell Streak 7 tablet in works. Apparently, a Dell M02M mobile internet device got the Wi-Fi certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance recently. Also, accessories maker Vaja listed Dell's 7-inch tablet for its leather cases. Back in September, Dell Greater China President, Mr. Amit Midha, promised a 7-inch tablet to arrive in weeks and 10-inch tablet in next 6-12 months. 

Dell CEO Michael Dell briefly flashed an unnamed 7-inch tablet back in September. Following that, Midha confirmed that the tablet would be introduced within weeks. Apart from that, Dell also plans to introduce a 3-inch, 4-inch and 10-inch tablets in the coming year. Apparently, the Dell Streak 7 would run Google Android, I suppose 2.3 Gingerbread since it has been announced already. Just like the 5-inch Dell Streak tablet, it will have the Stage UI overlaid over Android. 

Dubbed as Dell Steak 7, the tablet will carry 7-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen display. Of course, it will have Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) for connectivity but there's no word on whether it will support 3G Networks as well. Inside the tablet, Dell is rumored to use dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip for enough computing and graphics power. The tablet would be capable of playing 1080p HD video. 

Engadget claims to have got their hands on the story board of Dell Streak 7's Ad Treatment. In one of the slides, the Streak 7 is shown with front-facing camera, so video calls might be on the cards.

We can expect Dell to show off the Streak 7 at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2011 starting January 6 in Las Vegas.

Google is giving $1000 to 500 YouTube Partners

You must have heard of Google's YouTube Partner program, where you can become a partner and can earn revenue for your videos (provided they are good). Apparently it is doing very well as they have over 15,000 partners worldwide. Since these people generate a lot of revenue for Google by driving people to YouTube, Google is now giving back to them by giving 500 of these partners $1000 each. 

It will be in the form of store credit at B&H Photo, where these partners can get better photographic equipment for themselves so they can create better videos in future. Along with acknowledging those who are already on board, this should also encourage more people to become a partner and earn money for their videos.

Android Honeycomb Tablet Of Motorola due at CES 2011

Before this month, Motorola's Google Android 3.0 HoneyComb OS running tablet - was rumored as MOTOPAD - and was reportedly spotted online. Earlier, on December 6, Google VP of Engineering Andy Rubin had shown Google's next major Android Update - Honeycomb at the D: Dive Into Mobile Conference. While we eagerly waited for the details of this MOTOPAD, Motorola' s official Twitter account shared a link to the tablet's teaser video. Though Motorola hasn't specified anything on unveiling it, we expected to catch a glimpse of it at Consumer Electronics Show starting January 6, 2011. 

Motorola Tablet's teaser video does not show much about the MOTOPAD, but it certainly features current rivals Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab. These are the two tablets widely available. Since RIM hasn't released the PlayBook tablet yet, it won't be in the picture. In the Twitter update, Motorola simply stated, "Might want to hold off on that tablet purchase until 2011." However, it doesn't specify or promise unveiling or launching it on a specific date/month.

So far we have a rough list of MOTOPAD specifications that state it has a 10.1-inch screen with 1280x800 pixel resolution support. Under the hood, the tablet will run NVIDIA Tegra 250 System-on-Chip running at 1GHZ with 512MB RAM. Google Android Honeycomb update is said to be optimized for running on large screen tablets and devices. However, we're yet to get a glimpse of a working model.

Facebook Exposed Its New Features

"Mistakes do happen but some of them are good" . About 14 hours ago, Facebook faced a downtime and by mistake,  number of internal prototype features were made live for about 45 minutes. Later, features like Lightbox UI for photos, new Pages, Memories option, experimental Outside World features, and the Submit button were removed from the facebook . Amongst many lucky ones who got the access, Mashable got hold of a few screenshots of upcoming Facebook feature prototypes.

After facing downtime, websites apologise. But this time, as a few internal prototype features were exposed during the Facebook downtime, Facebook amicably admitted that " some internal prototypes were accidentally exposed to people externally" through its official Twitter and Facebook account.

This is year-wise a timeline that shows all your status updates, photos, friends, Likes and Events. It's like a walk down the memory lane from the time you joined the social network.

Outside World Filter:

Twitter user @Casschin spotted and posted a screenshot the News Feed filter dubbed Outside World for filtering news feed. It appears to be an option to add RSS feeds of some external web service and it was figured long back that Outside World remained to be an Facebook's Staff-only feature.

Lightbox UI for Photos:
Since Facebook has become like a dump-ground for pics, several users love to browse through the photos or pics they uploaded, got tagged and even friends photos. This is a nifty update enabled using right and left arrow keys to move forward and back between photos. With Lightbox UI, when you click on the photo, it will become the center of your attention and everything in the background will go black. This is something similar to what Flickr has recently adopted.

Submit Button Elopes:
An experimental update might be rolled out to remove the Submit button below any text box on Facebook. Tell you honestly, that will puzzle millions.

Square Enix has announced that the release of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light game for Apple iPad, iPhone and also for iPod touch. When we reviewed the PC version of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light , we found it quite enjoyable as well as addictive. The 9th game in the Tomb Raider series, Lara Croft is available in two versions for the iOS platform - iPad HD edition and other for iPhone as well as for iPod touch.

Lara Croft and her partner Totec - the 2,000-year old Incan warrior, are set out on the question. Just like the PC version, the iOS version too carries a static isometric view. Addictive game play comes with loads of co-op action involved in puzzle solving, more amazing graphics and better touch controls.

India is the World's 3rd Largest Internet User

Hindustan Times  says that India is now the 3rd largest Internet user-base in the world, as claimed by the Google India's Head of Products Vinay Goel. The 1st 1 in the list is China with 300 million users, then U.S. at 207 million. India comes in 3rd at with 100 million people entangled in the digital web. 

What is more important to note is that 40 percent of those 100 million are accessing the net through their cell phones. Vinay's estimate is that by two years, the number of mobile Internet users will surpass those using PCs. That's a big contrast from 2007 - only three years ago, when the nation had just two million users. He stated that there's a major scope for improvement for the mobile Internet market, as the 40 million mobile Internet users comprise of only 8 percent of the total number of people using cell phones in general. Finally, Goel said that Indian internet users search for songs the most.

Google Latitude Now Available on the iPhone, iPad

Google Maps was a built-in applicaiton in the iPhone since the 1st version back in the year 2007. All these years, while other phones running OSes like Android or Symbian enjoyed Google Latitude - a friend locator-tracking feature as part of Google Maps, Apple had rejected the iPhone version of the app previously. Now, you can download the newest version of the Latitude app on all recent iOS devices like the iPhone 3GS (sorry iPhone 3G users), iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generation and the iPad. It will require your iDevice to have iOS 4.0 or above installed. 

With Latitude, your friends (ideally, people you know rather well) can know your current location on a Google map. Latitude lets you share your location in the background, even when the application is closed or your device screen is locked. As a measure for your privacy, you can share only city-level location, hide your location or turn off background updating at any time. It may sound creepy to some, but a few could also find it useful. Consider that you are reaching some unknown place where your friend has already reached - thus that person could turn on Latitude, and you just have to navigate to them.

World's Tiniest Battery To Better Gadget Up-times

In the future, when a day arrives that your touchscreen smartphone battery will last you for longer than a single day, one of the people who we would like to thank could be Jianyu Huang. The Hindustan Times offered a cryptic write-up about the U.S based Sandia National Labs researcher who has invented a battery thinner than human hair - or in today's record, the world's thinnest battery.  

This lithium-based battery is so tiny that it was baked inside a transmission electron microscope. Huang says that doing it this way helped them figure out how such micro-batteries worked and bettered their understanding of how batteries worked in general. As those microscopic electrodes put together have a chance for significant improvements over what we've got now, they could be used in hybrid cars, laptops and cell-phones.  It's good to hear about those scientists working on improving battery technology, rather than just the chip-makers constantly working to budget power consumption. Because let's face it - we're doing a lot more on our mobile devices than we were a decade ago; be it shooting hi-def video or using cell-phones as GPS navigation systems. All these things require more power; and with most smartphones measuring in the range of just 9 to 12 mm thickness, I doubt how many would trade back that slimness for better battery life

Samsung out with a Dual-Core Netbook and Laptop

Samsung out with two new portable computers for India. The Samsung NF210 is a 10.1-inch screened Netbook housing a dual-core Atom processor; the N550 with each core running at 1.5 GHz. That coupled with the 2GB RAM should keep the pre-installed Windows 7 (not mentioned which one, but we assume it to be the 'Starter Edition') running without an annoying lag. For people wanting to know more about the processor, it supports 1MB L2 cache memory, hyper-threading (that'll show four cores in the Windows task manager) and the GMA 3150 graphics chip on the CPU die itself. It weighs a fairly light 1.34 kilos and has better connectivity options as compared to other netbooks in the form of Wi-fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0 support. There's also fairly ample 320GB hard disk space to store all your content on (especially since nowadays companies like Google aren't very affectionate with that idea). Samsung's banking on the 6-cell battery to deliver 10.5 hours of up-time; with netbooks doing 7-8 hours on an average, this is not entirely unbelievable. Lastly, they've also integrated an "Fast Start" feature that helps boot the netbook faster. The Samsung NF210 sells for Rs. 22,990.

Think Netbooks are too puny for an Hombre like you huh? Maybe the Samsung SF510 will be big enough for ya. Powered by either a Core i3 or i5 processor, the SF510 is a 15.6 incher desktop replacement. It weighs a fare 2.4 kilos, and has a similar curvy shape to the one above. 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive and a DVD writer sound well-spec'ed enough. Graphics are powered either by the entry-level NVIDIA GeForce 310M or the mid-range GeForce GT420M. They mention the touch-pad to be "button less" and gesture friendly - let's see how good (or bad) that is once we use it. The Samsung SF510 is priced at Rs. 55,490.

Clear video of PlayStation Phone surfaces online

Last weekend the grainy images of Sony Ericsson's PlayStation Phone surfaced on the web. Then two days ago, we reported about Sony Ericsson's much buzzed about PlayStation Phone was captured in a spy video. And now Engadget's Paul Miller spotted a video showing clear image of the PlayStation phone running Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. Apparently, Engadget is lucky in getting early scoops on the PlayStation Phone.

A user with YouTube user name xxmajstor uploaded video of his brief encounter with PlayStation Phone running Gingerbread update. Looks like Sony was working on PlayStation Network integration with the Android just like Microsoft Xbox LIVE is integrated in Windows Phone 7 operating system. PlayStation Phone has PlayStation App with a joystick button just like the one that appears on Sony PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable game consoles. From the video I still can't figure out whether its PlayStation Store connecting App or proper PlayStation integration. 

So finally following are the confirmed details:

Mercury Launches Maestro, Tabla Handsets

Mercury has introduced 2 new mobile phones - Maestro and Tabla - in the entry-level segment. Music lovers who like to use their phone as a portable music player they will be happy to know that Maestro packs has a Yamaha Amplifier, while the Tabla promises that it has 3D Surround Sound quality. Both the phones will be available for less then 3000 rupees only ; the Maestro will cost Rs. 2990, while the Tabla will cost Rs. 2800. 

The new Maestro has a 2.2-inch Bright Light LCD with 1.3 megapixel camera with FM and Bluetooth. Use the expandable memory slot to add memory card for loading more music and stuffs and play it on the speakers powered with Yamaha Amplifier.

The Mercury Tabla comes with a 2.4-inch TFT Display along with 1.3MP Digital Camera. Music lovers can expect some surround sound experience with 3D Surround Sound with FM and MP3 player. The handset also offers GPRS and WAP connectivity for the chat using EBuddy, and social networks like Facebook,Orkut,Twitter.

No one looks at the sub-Rs. 3000 segment for a media feature-rich phone and that's where these two Mercury phones  positioned themselves.
